Elastoplastic large deflection analysis is performed on a 1/2+1/2 holds model of an existing bulk carrier, and the collapse behaviour of a transverse bulkhead of corrugated plating subjected to lateral pressure due to flooding in one of the holds is discussed. Similar analysis is performed also on a half-pitch model of a corrugated bulkhead, and the collapse strength is evaluated. Based on the results of analyses, a simple formula is proposed for the design purpose to estimate the collapse strength of a corrugated bulkhead subjected to accidental flooding load.
