Motivation activates and directs behavioural tendencies and thus influences the cognitive processes like perception, the internal setting of goals, situational awareness, the decision process, the way of executing actions that are involved with car driving. Therefore the incorporation of motivational factors into a driver model has been investigated and demonstrated in an example. The model has been used for the simulation of an illustrative situation where motivational dispositons indeed lead to distinguishable driver behavior. Further work in this direction will comprise the application and evaluation of alternative modelling methods like fuzzy techniques or artificial neural networks. The interrelation of emotional aspects with motivation and cognition is also an aspect to be investigated in this context. Last but not least there should be experiments with real drivers both in a driving simulator and in real environments to validate the model.
