This study introduces a method of misfire detection with knock sensors. As the transmission path from the sensor to the interior of the cylinder can not be specified quantitatively, it is not possible to deduct the processes within the cylinder. The physical causes of the knock sensor signal are known and they are represented in this paper. Using these knowledges and the blind deconvolution method, the transfer function of the system interior of the cylinder <--> sensor can be determined, which associates the combustion processes with the knock sensor signal. The efficiency of this procedure will be verified by using both simulated data and real knock sensor signals.
