The PA6 B-STC is the latest development in the PA6 engine. Available in 12, 16 and 20-cylinders, it has been developed to meet the requirements of the market for fast ferry and navy frigate propulsion regarding weight/power ratio, operating torque envelope, overall dimensions, fuel consumption and reliability. The PA6 version is 25 % more powerful than its predecessor and reaches 8100 KW on the 20-cylinder model. It features the Sequential TurboChanging system (STC) which enables a range of high torques at intermediate speeds, a very good acceleration capability, lower specific fuel consumption and lower smoke emissions at part load. Particular studies have been carried out to reduce the specific weight, the overall dimensions and the installation cost and time on board. (Contributions and author's replies in Vol. 7, p. 1797)
