The paper discusses longitudinal static stability of simplified aerodynamic configurations in extreme ground effect. Static stability margin, defined as the difference between abscissas of aerodynamic centre of height and that of pitch, is determined as a function of parameters of the lifting system. Aerodynamics of low flying wing elements are described by means of the extreme ground effect theory, whereas characteristics of the highly mounted tail are determined with use of the lifting line approach. Qualitative analysis is carried out of the influence of different parameters upon static stability of wing-in-ground effect aerodynamic configurations. Discussion of the study is preceeded by a survey of relevant references.
