The philosophy pursued in this study is that theoretically there is no fixed replacement interval for a vehicle. Replacement of an old vehicle should occur when it is unprofitable in the long run, and a new vehicle should be purchased. This decision will vary from vehicle to vehicle since each has its own chracteristics, which are reflected in their profit variation. This paper deals with the development of a replacment model that takes into account the profit of each vehicle (revenue minus total costs). The vehicle replacement decision is based on its profit compared with the profit limit obtained by the model for its age over a fixed planning horizon. The model also takes into account the technological improvements of the new vehicle, as this factor will be reflected in its revenue and operating costs. A sensitivity test is also presented in the study.
