In the report some mechanisms of creep groan were discussed. At the Stick-Slip-effect is assumed to be largely responsible for the creep groan, by means of the literature investigation it was demonstrated that apart from minimising the difference between adhesion coefficient and dynamic friction coefficient othert mechanical system parameters such as high fundamental frequency and a high system damping have a positive influence on creep groan. Then, it was shown that the difference between adhesion coefficient and dynamic friction coefficient is increased considerably when the friction components are wetted resulting in a rise of the creep groan intensity. Further it could be proved in the experiment as well as by means of FE-simulation that the creep groan is caused by complicated dimensional brake movement. This phenomenon, however, cannot be sufficiently investigated by the classic single degree-of-freedom system sliding on a belt with constant speed. Interaction of the brake deformation during vibration and self reinforcing effects occur non linearly and thus control the energy flow in the system in a similar manner to a speed-dependent Friction Law. This is confirmed by initial results of a non-linear three-dimensional FE-model of a brake. Especially when the liner initially breaks off the disk - this is demonstrated by the analysis of the 2D-model - the tension plays an important role as well.
