Discussed are the need of collision prevention regulations (COLRGS) for fast small crafts from small 60 knot, 7 metre leisure craft up to fast ferries which are 140 m long with speeds of 40 kn. Future developments encompass 40 kn large cargo ships, 100 knot passenger and cargo vessels and veryhigh speed military crafts. Added to this high speed concepts is the 200 knot wing-in-ground (WIG) craftm which because it flies close to the sea surface, will interact with other marine traffic. The present available COLREGS not consider these high speed vessels. Therefore it is at the time toassess the collision risks, involved in encounters, both between fast andslow vessels and between two fast vessels. The current regulations are described and the technology of prevention of collosions is discussed
