In the paper the authors investigated and compared the performance aspects of conventional and radial trucks of controlled and uncontrolled types. In case of the conventional railway bogie two actuators are used, built in parallel to the wheelset guidance systems, while in case of the radial bogie only one controller is used between the two wheelsets. In both cases the active controllers are designed in order to make the systems robust against parameter uncertainties, and to reduce vibration. These parameter uncertainties can be either parameter deviations of guidance parameters, or nonlinearities of contact mechanics. The control problem is solved as a direct linear state-feedback problem, assuming that all state variables are directly available. In order to present the results, time series and frequency domain simulations are carried out.
