A theoretical and numerical time-domain solution of wave-induced vertical accelerations (cobblestone oscillations) of an SES in small sea states is presented. Resonant spatially uniform and nonuniform cushion pressure variations are important. The nonlinearitties concentrated on in this study are mainly caused by the behavior of the flexible stern seal bag. Its local vibrations and its interactions with the free water surface and the spatially varying pressure due to air leakage under the seals are accounted for. Dry modes are used to describe the response of the bag. The effect of spatially varying pressure under the bag due to air leakage is studied and found to be important. The influence of main parameters characterizing thestern seal bag is discussed.
