This paper illustrates how rational engineering was used in the successful design and construction of a solar/electric racing boat. The Universityof Michigan Solar/Electric Boat Team (UMSEBT) used this rational engineering approach to overcome diffulties inherent in developing an innovative concept ant turning that concept into a product in only six months. That products is the solar/electric racing boat named Vee-N-Verse which was recently entered in Solar Splash '94, the first ever international intercollegiate solar/electric boat regatta.
