A new unsteady aerodynamic model of the coupled rotor-body dynamics, is used in order to study the coupled free vibrations of rotor flapping and body pitch an roll in hover. It is shown that the unsteady aerodynamic effects have a very significant influence on the damping of the various modes, while their influence on the frequencies is usually smaller, but still significant. The strongest influence of unsteady effects appear in the case of the flap regressing mode, that plays a major roll in aeromechanical stability and flight mechanics problems. The influence of unsteady aerodynamic effects is very sensitive to the dynamic characteristics (flexibilities, masses, etc.) of the system. The results of the new model exhibit, in most cases, a very good agreement with experimental results from the literature.
