We successfully developed a new floating pier system consisting of multi-modules using GMT stampable sheets as a structural material for main components (floats, frames and decks). The size of the pier can be easily changed since modules as many as one wishes are connected together by simple joints. The test results for structural components and a prototype pier system confirm that not only the strength and the rigidity of the frame and the joint but also structural performance of the system are satisfactory. Materials tests under sea water reveal that sea water does not give severe damage to GMT laminates more than city water although static and fatigue strengths decrease due to water absorption. GMT can be applicable to marine structures as a main structural material as long as slight strength degradation due to water absorption is taken into account.
