The work presents a general boundary integral formulation for the unified aerodynamic and aeroacoustic analyses of lifting bodies in arbitrary motion, for transonic potential flows. Once the boundary integral representation for the velocity potential is derived, contributions from wakes and non-linear field terms are analyzed. Then, from the knowledge of the potential solution, the acoustic field is determined by applying the Bernoulli theorem. Numerical results obtained from the formulation outlined concern both aerodynamics and aeroacoustics of helicopter rotors in hover and forward flight in subsonic flows. They are compared with both existing numerical results and experimental data. Transonic results are presented only for non-lifting hovering rotors.
