Similarity methods provide a very powerful technique for modelling offshore platforms. Such methods are preferable for situations where the wave-structure interaction process is complex, and its modelling cannot be expressed by rigorous mathematical formulations. Modelling parameters for the wave-structure interaction of offshore platforms are presented in this paper by considering the interaction of the sea with the structure, together with the dynamic response of the structure using the frequency response function approach. A general model is developed in this paper. In addition, two more, restricted, models are presented in the paper. The model scales for different types of modelling, the variation of these scales among the different types of models and the basic geometric model parameters are discussed in the paper. The sensitivities of these model scales to different types of modelling and to incidental variations in thickness and Young's modulus are also considered in detail. It is observed that the idealizations in the modelling concepts introduce a maximum variation of -96.00 % (for FRF) and -63.33 % (for stiffness) for two kinds of comparisons. It is also observed that even for a given physical modelling, there can be incidental maximum variations of -7.63 % to 7.38 % for various modelprototype parameters, due to incidental thickness and Young's modulus variations.
