A battery managenemt system is necessary for an optimum use of a traction battery. The test of such a system can divided in four items: mechanical construction, test of the function, test of the effect and miscellaneous. With the testbench for battery management systems the items can be tested nearly automatically. Before all the function test can be made without the use of a real battery. With programmable testpatterns the sum of possibilities which occur during the operation of the traction battery, can be simulated. Some test on state-of-the-art battery management systems have been done.
