In the last three years, and as a part of a European program, EDF has developed together with SAGEM a quick charging technology. One minute of recharging will give to the vehicle the capacity to run for two kilometers. Alternatively, the battery can be recharged to eighty percent of its capacity in less than thirty minutes - this can be compared with 8 hours of standard recharging. The power electronics for this device has been carefully studied, to offer the best technology for a most affordable price. However, special emphasis has been laid on ensuring that the mains power network is not polluted by harmonics, while also ensuring satisfactory efficiency and power factor, and operation across a wide range of currents and voltage. It will be possible to offer rapid recharging of batteries for the majority of european electric vehicles.
