Nowadays, vibroacoustical comfort is one of the most important requirements among vehicle design parameters. In particular, as far as car interior noise reduction is concerned the active control system represents an important area of studies and investigations which receive a strong effort from the main manufactures and research institutions. In order to solve the problem of the interior noise two different approaches seem promising. The first, more studied and already suitable for mass application is based on the control of the interior acoustic field through microphones and loud-speakers. Instead the second, more innovative, is based on the idea of Active Structural Acoustic Control (ASAC), which uses actuators and sensors, of piezoceramic material, integrated in some structural elements of the car. In this way the noise born by structural vibration can be reduced. In this paper the firs preliminary results, concerning the application of this methodological approach on a mass production car, are presented. Then the experimental modal analysis, devoted to structural characterisation, the optimisation of the piezo-actuator position and their installation on a vehicle without interiors are analysed. The vibration reductions, obtained on the floor panel by using a simple feed-forward control system, in frequency bandwidths close to structural resonance are presented.
