Nowadays, economic conditions make automotive manufacturers to optimize shapes and dimensions of components. For particular specifications, the stress level existing on those components becomes harder. Consequently, fatigue phenomenon turns to be more important. The most general case of loading for fatigue-prone components is a multiaxial variable amplitude one. A multiaxial variable amplitude fatigue life prediction method is presented. It is based on the definition of a counting variable in order to make it possible to extract cycles by Rainflow counting, the use of multiaxial criteria adapted to limited fatigue life and a linear damage rule. All the problems of implementation of the method and its flow chart are clearly described. The validation of the method is currently underway with the helpful collaboration of SOLLAC and IRSID in France, on automotive suspension components submitted to CARLOS sequences.
