A new type of four-wheel-drive CVT continuously variable power transmission (CVT) with dual-cavity half-toroidal units has been developed. It has maximum speed ratio range of 1:8.7 and transmits input torque of 250 Nm and rotational speed of 5500 rpm. The dual-cavity CVT transmits equal torque to front and rear axles at a maximum efficiency of 86 % without a center differential gear box. The percentage of drag torques of the traction surface and auxiliary bearings are analyzed theoretically. The equivalent function of a center differential gear box is achieved through the control of the front and real speed ratio.
