The work described in this paper is an investigation into the flow optimisation of heat exchanger manifold geometry with particular reference to charge-air coolers for large truck engines. The paper reports the close agreement between experimental and numerical results from a previous investigation by the authors, and applies a generalised technique utilising a commercial CFD program and one-dimensional flow equations to iteratively develop new manifold geometries for even tube flow distribution in the heat exchanger core.
