In this paper, the complex three-dimensional turbulent flow and heat transfer in the HVAC module was computationally investigated. The complex three-dimensional CFD model was directly constructed from the three-dimensional electronic CAD geometry with about 150000 grid points in three spatial dimensions. The evaporator and heater cores were modeled using porous baffles with specified velocity direction. A three-dimensional Navier-Stokes code developd in-house was integrated with three-dimensional evaporator and heater analysis programs to predict the velocity, turbulence, pressure and temperature fields in the HVAC module. The strong interactions between airflow and convective heat transfer were carefully simulated. The effects on the evaporator and heater thermal performance due to non-uniform inlet velocity and temperature at the airside were taken into account. The heat transfer in the evaporator and heater was calculated by the three-dimensional evaporator and heater analysis programs, while the heat transfer in other regions was calculated by energy conservation equations.
