Silane functional acrylic copolymers are the basis for commercial automotive clearcoats with improved environmental etch resistance. These clearcoats are one component, meet VOC requirements in existing automotive facilities and have excellent mar resistance. Functionality other than silane can be incorporated into these coatings and auxiliary crosslinkers, such as blocked isocyanates, used to enhance environmental damage resistance. Cure and film performance properties of silane functional clearcoats utilizing blocked isocyanates as auxiliary crosslinkers are described.
