After a short relation showing the advantages realized by the indirect transmitting of the power of one or several high speed diesel engines to a single ship propeller, through some suitable reducing gears and couplings, it is talked of the three types of couplings most generally used: 1. Mechanical flexible couplings with springs, and in the case of several motors, a clutching arrangement. 2. Electro-magnetic couplings, that can be unclutched switching out the winding wires current. 3. Hydraulic couplings that can be unclutched by draining out the internal fluid. This relation is completed by an indirect transmitted power instance in which is used the hydraulic coupling system.
