The UEC-LS series engines have been developed as a long-stroke version of the existing LA-series engines. The new series engines have been designed as low speed types with super long strokes having stroke bore ratios of 3.6 and have appropriate characters as the main propulsions for the ships anticipated in future. On the development stage of this series, systematic research has been conducted for the tribological subjects between cylinder liner and piston ring, and the acquired results have been incorporated to the design of the LS series. The design concept of the LA series has been directly inherited to components of the LS series. This report also provides the results of shop test of the initial LS series engine.
