Nach einer theoretischen Betrachtung der Kavitationserscheinungen bei Dieselmotoren und der Erosions- und Korrosionseinfluesse werden die hieraus resultierenden Betriebsprobleme behandelt. Schwerpunkte sind Kraftstoff-, Kuehlwasser- und Schmieroelkreislauf. Empfehlungen fuer die Gestaltung der Zylinderlaufbuchse, Motorgehaeuse und Kurbelzapfenlager. Probleme werden durch die Steigerung der Nutzdruecke und Senkung der Motormassen verstaerkt, die Wahl geeigneter hydraulischer Kennwerte fuer die Betriebsstoffe und die richtige chemische Behandlung des Kühlwassers sind wichtige Abhilfsmassnahmen. Erosion/cavitation phenomena occurring in diesel engines are clearly influenced by an increase of the Pme's and the decrease of weights required for the propulsion of high-performance vessels. Careful selection of hydraulic parameters limit the effects in many cases. As concerns the cooling circuits, chemical treatment of the cooling liquid is very important. As concerns the crank and shaft bearing the solutions are not yet sufficient, but while the affected areas have a poor appearance, they cause neither a major loss of the characteristics of the bearing nor a shortening of its service life.
