The coopertative use of Knowledge Based and Case Based Reasoning is proposed to assist designers in the design of flat panel fibre reinforced composite structures. The system is composed of heuristic and experimental rules acquired from composites design experts. The system also includes design cases of previous composites design scenarios. The cases all depict design situations of fibre reinforced composites applied to commercial and military aircraft. It is believed that such a system can aid in preventing unforeseen mistakes during the design and manufacture of composite structures and assist in predicting the results of candidate designs.
