The actual daily traveling distance of 248 internal combustion engine vehicles (ICEVs) used in the fleet of a certain company was surveyed over one year. Comparing the data and driving range of assumed electric vehicles (EVs), the capability of EVs to substitute the ICEVs used in the company was evaluated. Evaluation was made based on the percentage of days in which the running distance of ICEVs was shorter than the range of the EVs. It was also examined how supplementary charging of the EVs during recess would enhance the percentage of days covered. The number of ICEVs of which the running distance for more than 80 % of days was covered by the range of the assumed EV equipped with a lead-acid battery was 78 of 248 units with supplementary charging, while 65 units without supplementary charging.
