DAUG has developed a fibre plaque technology which is used in maintenance-free sealed Ni/Cd traction cells. The advantages consist in low operation temperature, reliability, and high cycle life. The cell design can be used also in cells where Cd-electrodes is substituted by metal hybride or a zinc electrode. The complete power system including control devices for electric and thermal management of the battery is favoured for application in electric vehicles. Field tests and applications of Ni/Cd battery systems in pure and hybrid electric cars are presented.
