In this paper, a preview semi-active suspension of a quarter coach model moving along randomly profiled track is studied. This computer-controlled suspension is designed only to dissipate energy. Track irregularities are measured by sensors over length L in front of the vehicle and this information is exploited by the computer-controlled suspension. This means that deformation of the track can be taken into account when calculating the semi-active control law. First, using a three-degrees-of-freedom linear quarter coach model, preview information is shown to improve the behaviour of the non-preview semi-active system. Second, using hydropneumatic suspension in a quarter coach model, we show that the concept of preview likewise improve semi-active.
