This paper reviews the development of superplastic forming of aluminium and titanium alloys. After some general definitions and a short discussion on the benefits and limitations of this process, SPF of aluminium alloys is presented: properties of the commercially available alloys (2004, 5083, 7475, 8090), different processes (male and female forming, drape forming) and their characteristics; then, applications in Aerospatiale Aircraft Division are presented. SPF and SPF/DB of titanium alloy is also described: properties of the Ti - 6 % Al - 4 % V, SPF process and association with diffusion bonding (DB). Finally, applications on large structures of the A340 pylon are developped.
