In the Eureka project 'MOSAIC' a structure of a normal production car was redesigned and running prototypes were built and tested, using new materials like aluminium and composites, with the aim of obtaining the same performances of a traditional steel structure with a lower weight and cost. Among the component and subsystem considered, the complete floor of approx. 4 m2 was designed and molded with the S-Rim technology, allowing to develop the preform production, the resin injection and the bonding of the floor with the cycle times required by a mass production.
