The use of non-woven fabric reinforcement can offer significant advantages in many marine applications. This paper describes tests performed on quadriaxial glass-reinforced epoxy composites in order to validate finite element modelling of these materials. Tests on tensile coupons, circular plates, sandwich beams and large stiffened panels are described, and deflections and strains are compared with finite element predictions. Linear and non-linear finite elements are employed. While good correlation is generally found between measured and predicted deflections, calculated strains areless reliable.
