A computational method is described which predicts the level and spectral content of noise radiated from vehicle intake and exhaust systems. The method is based on the well understood linear propagation of the plane acoustic wave through the system. The engine acts as a time varying acoustic source to the intake and exhaust quasi steady state acoustic loads. Good agreement is show between predicted and measured results for the intake noise case included. The computation times are found to compare very favourably against other simulation techniques.
