A detailed mathematical model of the small perturbation lateral motions of a motorcycle is described. Parameter values sufficient to define a rider/motorcycle/tyre combination are added. Numerical methods are then employed to yield the modal properties for constant speed running at different speeds. Concentrating on the speeds and modes which represent the potential problem conditions, eigenvalue sensitivity analysis is employed to reveal those machine design parameters which are most influential in respect of these conditions. Results are interpreted in motorcycle and tyre design contexts.
