Polyester and acrylic powders are being used as primer surfacer and antichip materials in the automotive industry. Antichip coatings can be formulated for application over 'wet', or uncured electrocoat or over cured electrocoat. They are applied to chip-prone areas such as doors, hoods, and rocker panels. Full body primer surfacers for application over partially cured or fully cured electrocoat have been developed as well. The advantages and disadvantages of different types of powder primer coatings are discussed.
