A review is given of the selection of the propulsion and manoeuvring equipment and of the power plant for a 110m long car-passenger ferry from theviewpoint of a naval architect and the owner. The considerations for the selection of principal dimensions and the diesel-electric propulsion system are explained. Results of model experiments for speed and manoeuvring give a clear picture of the capabilities of this ferry equipped with four Voith-Schneider propellers. Some trial results conclude this article.
