The modal characteristics of structural vibration and interior noise of a passenger car are investigated. Also the interior noise is predicted and reduced by use of vibrational-acoustic mode coupling analysis. Finite element analysis of structural modes of substructures of the car was preformed and the modal models were checked and modified through modal experiments. The modal characteristics of the full car was predicted with the entire FEM model consisting of modal models of the substructures and structural joints. This procedure is applied to reduction of interior noise of the car and the usefulness of this procedure is demonstrated.
