This paper is a progress report on computer vision methods used in road traffic applications using a multi-transputer system, the collection of traffic data on motorways is demonstrated. A derivative technique enables stationary vehicle to be located, say on the hard shoulder. A new approach to tracking vehicles has been derived and initial results on this reported. Finally progress on a number plate recognition system is given. Details of the algorithms are reported, the hardware system is described and the results of the system operation presented. A video of the system working on trial recordings of vehicles will be shown.
