In the modern world there is an increasing need for surveillance, and a consequent need for automatic or semiautomatic methods for processing dynamic input data and presenting it in a form which is useful to the end user. This paper outlines advanced knowledge-based techniques for monitoring such data. The techniques have been applied to applications for surveillance of moving vehicles and demonstrated in particular on data from actual turnround scenarios for stand area servicing of an aircraft as observed by a single camera. Results are output in real-time as a status report by an integrated system which is designed to handle the vagaries of real data in respect of incompleteness and uncertainty. The new techniques developed can also be applied to other surveillance applications and which have multiple sensor inputs of the same or different modalities.
