This article sets out to show technological trends and developments in propulsive plants for fishing vessels, and the accompanying shaft lines. Investigation have made use of means normally available within Bureau Veritas. Matters dealt with include the propulsive plant in general, with the lineshafting, and certain precautionary measures, to ensure that the installation will be sufficiently reliable. They are two parts: -the questionnaire, its analysis and results;- and comments on propulsive plants as a whole, with some recommendations. It is important to note that the inquiry concerns only ships at the project design or under construction. Although the number of ships covered by the inquiry is far from representative of all ships in fact planned or under construction, it may give an idea of the direction of new technologies in this area.
