Demands for better performance and narrowing constraints on weight and volume have led Naval pump designers to consider new configurations. An alternative for Naval applications is the In-line Submersible Pump technology demonstrator undergoing tests at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Annapolis, Maryland. This new pump type incorporates unique features including shaftless impellers, submersible motors, and large water lubricated bearings. This paper describes the pump, assesses its advantages, and discusses results of recent testing.
