High strength steels are now at the forefront of a potential application to automotive wheels for weight saving. Hot-rolled ferrite-martensite dual-phase steels with up to 60 kg/mm2 in strength have been applied to automotive wheel disks for more than five years in Japan. High durability must be maintained when the weight saving of wheels is fulfilled. The durability is confirmed to relate to the microsctructure of steels used through their fatigue resistance. The aim of the paper is to understand the fatigue property of high strength steels from metallurgical points of view.
