A nonlinear, in-plane ride dynamic simluaton model of a typical multi-wheeled tracked vehicle is developed. The model includes track dynmamic loads, road wheel/track-terrain interactions, and hull wheel/track-terrain interactions. Dynamic track loads are modeled in view of track blet stretching and initial track tension, whereas an equivalent damper and continuous radial spring formulation is employed to model road and hull wheels/track-terrain interactions. The vehicle is assumed to transverse an arbitrary but specified undeformable terrain at a constant speed. Field testing of a conventional military armoured personnel carrier traversing 6-in. and 8-in. half-round obstacles is carried out for various vehicle speeds and initial track tension. Computer simulation results are validated against field measured results.
