Several thousands of engine, gearbox, wheelbase, retarder, drive axle combinations are made available in concrete form to the customer, in order to meet the diverse usage requirements of a commercial vehicle. It is impossible to test them all. RENAULT V.I. have therefore developed a suite of calculation programs for studying the behaviour of drivelines at different levels. The program that is to be dealt with in this article serves to simulate the dynamic behaviour of drivelines subjected to torsion. The theory behind this simulation tool will be presented, together with the tools implemented to facilitate exploitation, namely a data base and a preprocessor, which are in keeping with RENAULT V.I.'s software quality objective. Recent developments involving the modelling of inter-axle differentials and transfer boxes have been added to the program. The dynamic study of these two elements is explained in this article, together with an example of their utilization on a concrete case.
