Direct applications of processes known as DRI-STRIP and DRI-PREP have proven effective in improving overall material utilization and reduction in scrappage and ultimate solid waste disposal of defectively painted automotive type substrates. Material types most effected include plastics and metals with applications ranging from plastic body panel and fascia to maintenance paint removal from bucks, hangers, and automotive body carriers. Pre-treatment of plastic substrates prior to painting for improved adhesion characteristic can be achieved by DRI-PREP application. The firms involved have sought to develop an understanding of the technology through a comparative matrix and a recount on application potential to state-of-the-art coatings systems and corresponding substrates. Both DRI-STRIP and DRI-PREP have sound environmental characteristics and potential in the ever expanding 'recycle' dilemma.
