Prepainted rolled metals have experienced a growing trend for manifold applications in the transport sector. The first applications date back to the Sixties and were carried out on caravans. Materials like wood, plastic and fiber glass were replaced by prepainted rolled metals. Car manufacturers are constantly looking for innovative technologies and materials. Prepainted materials have played a relevant role in improving corrosion resistance thanks to products rich in epoxies containing zinc powder applied on cold rolled steel. Thanks to new assembly systems the use of continuous electrogalvanized steel with different organic coatings is now more and more widespread. Flat-rolled, hot dip galvanized or electrogalvanized steel, processed with pure zinc or zinc alloys such as Zn-Ni, Zn-Co, Zn-Fe etc. or featuring a multi-layer coating such as Zn-Cr-CrOx, can be prepainted through a continuous process with thin or thick organic coating.
