A novel emissions measurement system has been designed and fabricated as part of an effort to conduct a comprehensive program for field testing of heavy duty vehicles using diesel or alternate fuels. The system has the capability of measuring emissions, namely, particulate matter, CO, CO2, NOx, THC, formaldehyde, and methanol from heavy duty trucks and buses operating in both the steady state and transient modes. The self contained transportable laboratory includes a novel chassis dynamometer, a unique emissions measuring system which is housed in a trailer and consists of a total-exhaust CFV-CVS dilution tunnel capable of measuring emissions as per the Federal Register requirements, power sources and a workshop. This paper discusses the details of the emissions measuring system.
