The layout of flexible hose is one of the difficult tasks in the design of truck and bus suspensions, mainly because hoses are made of elastic composite materials and their shape in assembled condition is defined with the equilibrium of the internal force. This paper presents a new method to obtain the large deformation of a flexible hose based on a dynamic finite element method. Using this method, the bent or twisted shape of a hose can be computed both stably and rapidly. The computed result showed good agreement with the experiment. The CAD system incorporated with this method made it possible to produce the optimum layout of a flexible hose.
