In order to ensure constant improvement of vehicle quality, it is essential to look for better resistance (both static and dynamic) and good stiffness (deflection). Car manufacturers' requirements are moving towards steels with good dent resistance in general, but also with good drawability. Against this background, SOLLAC and PSA have worked together as partners in order to fulfill these criteria. The idea was to develop and test, with a view to their subsequent utilisation, high strength steels and bake hardening (BH) steels with mechanical characteristics which give good drawability in the delivered state. After forming, the yield strength of all these steels is improved by work hardening (WH). In the specific case of bake hardening (BH) steels, the yield strength is further improved during the heat treatment applied during the paint baking process. We are going to present the approach adopted and the results achieved with the help of one example on a car hood.
